Happy 1st Birthday Evan Henry!

First birthdays are supposed to be a big deal, and Evan's was no exception. He had a big party on Saturday, complete with cake, balloons, a funny birthday hat, and presents. It was so much fun, he had to take a nap right in the middle of the party, but who can blame him?! He didn't know what to do with his cake, but I'm happy to report that he did finally eat some of it on Sunday. Maybe he just wanted to wait until the official day?

After Saturday's festivities, Evan spent Sunday afternoon lounging in his new pool.

Happy Mother's Day

Everyone asked me if this Mother's Day felt different since it was the first one I got to celebrate as a Mom. It did, but not in the way I expected. Last year there were no diapers to change. This year there were plenty. Last year I was just a few weeks away from delivery, but well rested and with no clue how many sleepless nights lay ahead. This year I know sleep deprivation all too well. Last year I was organized, Type A, and (almost) always rational. This year? Ha! Last year, I loved my Mom. This year, I love her even more, but I also have a profound new respect for her. That's probably been the biggest surprise - just how amazing and wonderful motherhood is. It's the only thing I know that feels some days like it might just kill me but that I embrace every day when I see Evan's smiling face (and his pouty one). I don't know if it's chemical, neurological or just instinct that kicks in, I just know it's awesome.

11 Months!

It's going to be a very busy month for Evan's Dad. He has two birthdays to remember, Mother's Day and our anniversary. Poor guy. I *almost* feel bad for him.

Evan is 11 months old and counting down to the big birthday. He's adding new words and sounds every week - "uh oh" being the new favorite. He'll drop things on the floor just so he can say it.
I think I passed an official milestone in motherhood this week too. Evan was throwing a fit in the grocery store and by the time we checked out I was paying for an open package of baby snacks. All stores should stock these things - they'd make a killing from desperate mothers.

His new favorite sleeping position. How can this be comfortable?
