To McFly

Dan and I joke that I fell in love with you before I fell in love with him. You certainly won me over from the very start with your happy disposition. You were there through everything. All of it.

Our second date was taking you for a walk in the park next to the apartments where Dan lived. You wanted to chase everything and say hello to everyone. We took you with us when we went to visit family for the holidays. You missed us whenever we were out of the room. And you chewed everything to show how much this bothered you. Chairs. Curtains. The bed. The car. Oh boy, you were a handful, but your love outshined all the puppy troubles.

You were there when Dan proposed. You were there when we brought Evan and Connor home. You were unbelievably patient with them without fail. You let them chase you, sit on you, crawl over you, and you only wanted love (and treats).

Everyone you met loved you. And you loved them. You would bounce up and down in excitement when Grandpa came over and gave you more treats than you probably needed. You watched out the window for Ms. Della to walk by because she always carries extra treats for the neighborhood dogs.

I can’t believe you won’t be there anymore when we come home or in the morning when I should be taking you out for our early morning walk. The clickety clack of your paws on the floor. The constant wagging and whacking of your tail on us and everything around you. Your dependability in eating every last crumb we dropped on the floor. The nightly chewy treat the boys would give you. We already miss all of this. The silence is deafening.

Saying goodbye to you was harder than I ever could have imagined. We love you, McFly. Good night, good boy.
