Valentine's Day Shoot Sneak Peak

I decided to set up a little Valentine's Day shoot with Evan this past weekend. Rather than drag out the backdrop stand though, I decided I'd play around with the walls / colors in my house a bit. It really turned out to be a good lesson in how different light can change the results of your image. I was shooting just as the sun was making it's way down and through my front window. I really prefer the lighting in the wee hours of the morning, but Evan isn't so keen on that, so sunset it was. It didn't take too much to get Evan to agree to sit in the right area - I had cleared away a chair and left out his bag of Valentines from last year.

Turns out, much like Dan, he's also not so keen on smiling right after waking up. The sun was really starting to stream in here - you can see where it hits the edge of his hair.

And by this point, I had to totally close the blinds to avoid a dappled light nightmare and work with my Speedlight.

Anyway, check out how the saturation of the yellow in the wall behind him changes. Pretty interesting how much different things can look when using natural light vs. bounced flash.

AAAAND, now I'm taking off my photo nerd glasses for anyone whose eyes have glazed over (ahem, my darling husband). The 'money' shots of Evan from this little shoot will be posted closer to V-Day!
