It's Winter, No, It's Spring, No It's...

There's a saying where we live...if you don't like the weather, just wait a day. Lately, we've had to shorten that to hours. As my coworker, a recent transplant from California, put it, March just messes with your head. That it does.

Being stuck inside when you're an adult is bad. When you're four, it's torture. But we do our best to occupy Evan. One of his favorite things to do is read stories. For now, we're still reading to him, but I have caught him looking at his books and making up what they say (though he has started sounding out words and spelling everything). Here he is with a picture book at my parent's house. It came with a record (yes, record!) that reads the story. My Dad didn't think he'd be ready for this for a few more years. Ha! He was totally engrossed.

On this same visit, my mom pulled out a box of my old children's books that I'd boxed up as a teenager. I brought them home, and a few days later my Dad came over to hang out while my Mom had some errands to run. I think my Dad ended up reading at least 10 of those books that night. I don't know who has happier.

Last weekend we got a break from all the cold, dreary, wet weather - for ONE day. I'm so glad it fell on a Saturday. We packed up and headed to a newly renovated park near us. Evan played on the playground, then we all went and threw the baseball around for a while. Heaven.

The next day it was 35 and snowing. I'm ready for Spring to stay for a while.
