Piano and Dance Recitals

Evan started both dance and piano lessons in January. He's taking piano lessons from the same teacher I had in middle and high school. Sue is great and it's amazing how far he has come in just a few short months. He had his first piano recital in May and Evan amazes me with his lack of stage fright or nervousness when it comes to performing, especially so at this age. Here are a couple post-show photos and a video of his performance.

I love how he sits down and hands his music back to his Dad when it's all over. Cool. Done. Checked that off the list.

Evan was taking gymnastics last fall when he noticed a sign for a dance studio in the same building. He asked me about it and said he wanted to take classes. Whereas most of his other activities have come about because either his dad or I have sought them out and gauged his interest, dance was Evan's idea from the get-go. We have tried to expose him to different things, especially around the arts and sports, so maybe it was seeing The Nutcracker ballet last December that sparked the interest, (or watching Dancing with the Stars with his grandma!), either way, I'm glad he found something he loved and put his heart into it.

A Mother's Lament, Continued

About three and a half years ago I posted a couple of pictures of Evan - at one year and 3.5 years old, in the same spot, standing next to some letters I had hanging in his room. I was a little sad about how much that short amount of time had changed him, from baby to little boy. Well, imagine what happens between 3.5 years and 7 years old. A LOT. All that chunkiness and babyness is totally gone. Replaced with a lanky, on-the-go, wired with energy B-O-Y.

His new room is accented with "big" boy colors of midnight blue and red, so it was time to repaint the letters. A little sadness there too, but he loves the new baseball and stars theme. Still to come is the Louisville Slugger and karate belt display. He's growing up, but he's also growing into who he is, and for that I am happy.
