Teeth (or lack thereof)

Evan's teeth have had a precarious adventure ever since they came in. When he was about 16 months old, he fell at day care and managed to bite through his lip, requiring stitches. There have been numerous occasions since then where he fell and I was shocked he didn't knock out his teeth. In fact, one of his two front teeth had been dying a slow death for a while now from nerve damage, no doubt incurred from one of those many falls.

The first two baby teeth to go were the first that came in as a baby. They were on the bottom and fell out last winter, quickly replaced by permanent teeth, so it was hardly noticeable. His top teeth still seemed pretty sturdy. Then in a span of two weeks, he went from this:

He's still adorable, but I'm going to miss that baby tooth smile. The tooth fairy has, so far, remembered to replace the teeth with a gold Sacajawea dollar for each tooth lost. The tooth fairy left me a quarter for each tooth when I was a kid, so I think $1 makes for a pretty good inflation rate, especially when presented as a gold coin, right? Wrong. Evan was duly unimpressed when the tooth fairy kept leaving the same coin (this was on tooth #2 mind you...boredom is quick with 5 year olds). So for teeth #3 and #4 she's left, in addition to the dollar, a coin from France and a coin from Ireland, having had stops there before coming to our house. Evan loves it. That tooth fairy is a clever one, with a network of world travelers and change to spare.

Little League

We're already more than halfway through this year's Little League season and I haven't yet posted anything. It is much, much more difficult to even remember to take the camera with a baby (and all his gear) in tow. I'd like to chalk this up to trying to be present in the moment than snap photos, but in reality it is not as much a conscious effort as it is a there's-no-way-I-can-carry-one-more-thing 'thing.'

Evan "graduated" from t-ball to Pee Wee, the primary differences being machine pitch and score keeping. He is one of the younger (if not youngest) members of his team, but he's doing well. I think the machine pitch is a little intimidating for him as his swing tends to slow only when the machine pitches. Up until that point, man oh man, he has the swagger. He's learning a lot though, and importantly, having fun.

Extra bonus this year - his team got to ride a fire truck in the parade! His team is sponsored by this EMS crew.

See what I mean? Swagger.

My nephew, Landon, plays on an older league and he spotted me during the parade.

Our Everyday

As I was scanning through my pictures from the past few weeks and thinking about the "events" I need to blog, I realized I was overlooking a lot of the good stuff in our everyday life. Missing the forest for the trees, as they say. So here's just a few glimpses into life at our house.

More Easter

I love when Easter falls later in the Spring. Usually it means the weather is a little nicer and Evan can hunt eggs outside. Next year Connor will be able to join him, but for now he was mostly just fascinated with chewing on whatever was in his Easter basket.

Evan loves hard boiled eggs. He managed to eat four of them on Easter (minus the yolks) when I wasn't looking.

Connor does this head tilt thing and I swear it's almost like he knows it's going to cause adults to break out the "awwwws" because he gets the cutest little grin on his face.

I've been trying to be better about taking photos of all of us. This is the one where we're all looking at the camera:

And this is what the other 20 images from the set look like.

7 Months

Connor is chugging right along and growing up so quickly! I miss the itty-bitty stage. Of course, this time next year I'll be pining for when he was this age. Don't get me wrong, this stage is awesome in so many ways. He's really active, and rolls around to get where he wants to go.

He can push up and is 95% there on sitting up without a spotter.

He "talks" by babbling, blowing raspberries, and screeching at his brother's antics. His hands are in perpetual motion (must be the Italian side of him...ha!), especially when he's excited about something. He crinkles his nose when he laughs. It's ridiculously adorable. He furrows his brow when trying to figure something (or someone) out.

At 7 months, I read that babies start to figure out object permanence. When an object is dropped, instead of crying, they might look for it instead. For toys and such, Connor will do this. However, this object permanence thing is not applicable to mommy. When he's tired, he wants me. You can track where I am in the house based on Connor's cry. Laundry room (cry), family room (smile), kitchen (cry), family room (smile), laundry (cry). It would be funny were it not a little pitiful.

He already has favorite foods - carrots, green beans, and rice cereal. Mostly purees, but he's sampled cooked green beans and seems to be a fan.

He loves to participate in anything Evan is doing. One night Evan decided to read to Connor. My heart melted.

Seven months is so much fun.

Easter + 6 Month Portraits

Hello there, neglected little blog. Life got a little crazy. Spring fiiiiinally appeared, Little League started, then between Easter season and concert practice for Evan and, well, I'm way behind in everything, including editing photos. Since Connor will be 8 months old in a couple weeks, I should probably get around to posting the rest of his 6 and 7 month photos.

His 6 month portraits were a challenge. He was not feeling great (found out a few days later he had his first real illness...upper respiratory and ear infection), and had only cat napped most of the day, but the little champ still managed some smiles and humored me for a few Easter photos too.

He's got his "world's most interesting baby" pose down.

That grin!

Got a few more sibling shots. Love these two.
