I Got My Eye on You

Evan got his first Viewfinder this week from his Auntie Suzette. It was love at first sight.

I admit to being a new gadget geek, but I still think it's pretty cool that a 65 year old toy was a total hit in our house.

A Very, Very Quick Trip to the Park

On St. Patrick's Day it was supposed to rain most of the day in our area. I kept checking my Weather Channel app on my phone thinking the clouds were going to open up any minute, but they didn't. So I texted my friend Heidi and we went ahead with our plans to meet for dinner and decided to make the best of the nice weather and head to the park for a picnic; husbands, her baby, and my toddler in tow.

And then...the clouds rolled in. We ate super fast and let the boys play a few minutes on the playground before running to our cars.

Remember Simon, the same teeny tiny baby I took pictures of last year? Man time does fly.

We ended up spending 20 minutes under a bank drive-thru while it hailed. It is an adventure around here.

Video Monday: I Rock Preschool

Evan loves borrowing my iPhone to watch the kids' shows on Netflix. This morning he decided to make his own video to watch. By chance he wore his "I Rock Preschool" t-shirt. How perfect is that?

Early Spring

On one of the warmer days last week, as soon as I picked up Evan from school we headed out to play in the yard. We got the bubbles out for the first time this year too.

Is this thing on?

So happy he actually (almost) stopped to smile for me.

Tree limbs and little boys are like magnets. (Also, I discovered I can take a picture with one hand and hold a tree limb with another. Professional mommy.)

I don't know what is up with his hair. There are some universal truths about my child's hair I adhere to: 1. I don't cut it. 2. It looks normal most of the time. 3. When I'm taking pictures it will look like I don't own a hairbrush.

No bangs, but wait - looks like Spanky, has Alfalfa's hair!

Evan decided bubbles would make the flowers happy. I love his concentration face.

Come on Spring, we're ready for you! Minus the tornadoes, thanks.

Weird Winter

I can't recall the last time we went almost the entire winter without any snow. We had flurries a couple of times in December or January, but nothing stuck. The plants and trees are so confused by this unusually warm weather. Then last week all bets were off. Fifty three tornadoes touched down in the midwest and the south. 53! One of them, an EF-4, destroyed two cities not far from us, including my Dad's hometown. We are so very thankful for our lives, and our homes, remaining unscathed. The day they hit it was in the 70s and muggy, the perfect recipe for tornadoes when a cold front comes through. We came up from my parent's basement when it was all over and found giant hail all around the yard. I've tried to tell Evan only as much as I think he can understand without being terrified every time it storms.

The next four days: gorgeous and 50, snow, more snow, 70 and sunny again. Weeeeeird.

Gymnastics Makes for Future Video Embarassment

Gymnastics has provided its fair share of fun and entertainment for the whole family. Since parents have to remain outside the gym and observe either through windows or from the balcony above, the photo ops aren't great but it's still fun to watch.

Last week his class was tested on several different routines. I'm pretty sure some of these they'd never even tried, but the kids didn't seem phased. Evan got this back roll thing pretty quickly (excuse my lack of gymnastics terminology, I have his skills test sheet, but this one wasn't on it). Note: just click on the image to bring up the video.

But then at the next round, this happened. I love the way he just hops up at the end to start over.

It's tough when your head is bigger than the rest of your body.
