Pretending

Pretend play has become a huge hit in our house. Evan loves to "read" to an audience like the best of librarians at story time. This week he dragged the pillows off our bed, into the floor in his room, then insisted that his Dad lay in the floor with him and "go night night!" in a very loud, very non-night night voice. He's got a little work to do on this pretend stuff before he transfers it to the big stage.

Clever Boy

The wonderful people at Nikon shipped my camera and lens back to me last week, all shiny and fixed.

Evan was momentarily intrigued.

Then he grew bored and figured he'd try a new angle to scare the camera away. Nice try, kid.

What He Said

Lately Evan's been saying so many unbelievably hilarious, random, and quirky little things I can't keep up. It all started over a year ago with his Great Uncle Frank teaching him "Allright!" At least we knew where he learned that one (and to be honest, from what I've heard, I'm thankful Frank didn't teach him anything else).

I think Dan and I exchange at least one "where did he learn THAT?" glance daily. I need to catch some of these clever expressions on video, but it's not nearly as cute when it's scripted. Here's a rundown:

Nearly every question / request is now followed by a spot-on Valley girl impression.
J: Let's sing a song, Evan.
E: Mommy, you don't sing, okay?
He's prepping me now for his smarty pants teen years.

J: Daddy's Home!
E: Oh My Goodness!
Apparently Little Orphan Annie and Evan were separated at birth.

My latest favorite is one he debuted last night, dripping with sarcasm at 2.5 years old:

J: Evan, it's time for a bedtime story.
E: Oh, Joy.

But the one that really makes Dan twitch? Evan pulled out an awesome Sarah Palin-inspired, "You betcha'!" this week. I thought Dan was going to have a heart attack.

Smile!

I haven't entered a photo in the I Heart Faces challenge in a while, but was inspired by this week's theme. This isn't a technically perfect photo, and my hair's a mess, but I love it because it captured a fun moment between me and my son. We were making funny faces at each other and laughing in between.

Resolution Schmesolution

I didn't make any New Year's resolutions this year. I can't recall the last time I did make one. Well, unless you count senior year of college when I decided being a social smoker was just lame. I had also recently returned from a four month stint in Europe and was buying ridiculously expensive designer cigarettes in a delusional belief that I was hip. Also lame. I put my college-educated brain to use and put down my über-hip European smell-like-an-ashtray habit.

Anyway, I've been meaning to write this post for a while, after Christmas, then after the new year, but I grapple off and on with writer's block. Not that I can't write *something* but I wanted to write *something to be read.* Part of the problem is I don't have any new pictures on which to build a story. My camera is with Nikon being repaired. Now there are some pictures from Christmas morning to be posted, but I still needed that hook.

I promise to get back to my usual posts and pictures soon. As soon as I get my camera back and I find that silly hook. Just don't call it a resolution. I don't make those.

Until then, some wildly adorable pictures of Evan from Christmas morning.

Oh, and on a side note, I'm working on a redesign of my watermark. I'm still not crazy about it though. Love it? Hate it? Snide remarks? Have a better idea? Let me hear it!

The best part about this is that the dog has already sniffed out the chocolate in the stocking.

Then Evan goes in to find it.

He didn't even wait until we took the paper out of the cup before trying out his new Mickey sipster.

"Here, Dad, let me help you with this."

Here he is playing with his new recycling truck, or as we call it, the hippie truck. Evan loves this thing. He can recycle different materials (cards) into a slot on top of the truck, and the truck will sing:

"Paper starts with P. Can starts with C. Recycle starts with R, but it really starts with me." I work in environmental reporting and my eyes still rolled to the back of my head. Bunch of yuppies working at Fisher-Price these days.
